Walking around, I wondered, where are all the people? I soon learned that downtown Memphis doesn't come alive until around 9pm. We went to BB King's Blues Club for lunch, and while our char-grilled burgers were fantastic, we weren't buying the bartender's line that their ribs were better then Charlie Vergos' Rendezvous ribs.
No trip to Memphis is complete without a visit to Rendezvous. It's not on Beale Street, but tucked away in an obscure alley. Judging by the traffic coming in and out of the place, it's no secret. A word of advice if you go; study the menu online so you know what you want before you go in. The wait staff moves fast here. Order a pitcher of locally brewed Ghost River; the spices will make you thirsty. But once you get your food, sit back and enjoy. They don't offer coffee or dessert after your meal, but you'll be so full that you won't care.
