My Morning Commute

Recently, I decided to listen to French language CD’s in the car on my way to work. Since I haven’t made a special effort to learn it during my down time, I thought this might be a nice approach to improving my vocabulary. But it turns out that the CD’s I have are meant to accompany a text book. I don’t know how recently you’ve had the opportunity to notice this first-hand, but police officers tend to suspend their support of education and self-improvement when it comes to driving and reading text books simultaneously. So, for now, I’ve replaced those CD’s with Pink Martini as a surrogate. I can now, with confidence and perfect pronunciation, sing useful phrases such as, “I have body parts scattered all over the streets of Paris.” and, “I do not want to have lunch, I only want to forget.” and, “Where are my feet?”

I digress. I’ve been paying particular attention to the music I listen to and the effect it has on me lately. There’s a little project I have underway that merges my interest in music and photography. I should have more to talk about in a month or two, but for now, “J’ai perdu mes bras sur la Place de l’Opera.”

Projects in the Making

I'm focused on some neglected work and planning for future projects, so I've got no special themes to explore tonight. Except that I'm really into this right now.

10 Things to Do in December

As I look back on 2010, it was filled with all sorts of highs and lows, but it's certainly helped me focus on the important things. Hence, my list of things I want to do in December:

1. Celebrate.
2. Spend some quality time with my sisters and friends.
3. Sing Christmas carols with Pink Martini.
4. Wrap my gifts with Pantone's Color of the Year 2011.
5. Wander aimlessly. With my camera.
6. Shoot for the 102310 Holidays in B&W project.
7. Give more to the Kidney Foundation.
8. Finish Proust's Swann's Way.
9. Look into that ballet class I promised myself when I finished with classes.
10. Gear up for mysterious developments in 2011.

What are you doing this month?

Où est ma tête? - Pink Martini

When I first moved to Columbus, there was this great rumor going around that I had lived in Paris for two years, I learned years later. Oh yes, I just hung out at Le Café de Flore, drinking coffee and filling my sketch book with amusing depictions of other patrons. Okay, I didn't. But if I had to start a rumor about myself, that would be the one.

Happy Bastille Day!

A Little Friday Night Music

It's been a busy week at work, and when I'm trying to focus and meet a deadline, I put in my plugs and enjoy some mood-setting music. Pink Martini makes me wish we could still get dressed up and go out to dinner clubs and dance halls. Perhaps they still have them in Naples? If you'd like to see what she's singing about, go here.
