Color

I've been missing painting lately. A lot. Yet I didn't have anything in particular that I wanted to paint ... until I saw Pantone's Fall 2011 Fashion Color Report. And I decided I just wanted to paint all of them, so I flouted the technical rules of good painting, and covered a previous painting with honeysuckle as a foundation for all the other colors. I have only a rough idea of what I want the finished canvas to look like, but for now it feels good to be painting again.

10 Things to Do in December

As I look back on 2010, it was filled with all sorts of highs and lows, but it's certainly helped me focus on the important things. Hence, my list of things I want to do in December:

1. Celebrate.
2. Spend some quality time with my sisters and friends.
3. Sing Christmas carols with Pink Martini.
4. Wrap my gifts with Pantone's Color of the Year 2011.
5. Wander aimlessly. With my camera.
6. Shoot for the 102310 Holidays in B&W project.
7. Give more to the Kidney Foundation.
8. Finish Proust's Swann's Way.
9. Look into that ballet class I promised myself when I finished with classes.
10. Gear up for mysterious developments in 2011.

What are you doing this month?

Pairing Pictures: Turquoise

You remember back in December when I learned that Pantone would make 2010 the year of turquoise? (Wow, I wish I'd worked on that shot a little more ...) Well, I thought I'd do a little homage to turquoise.

I'm thinking August is the month for orange. August feels orange to me. What color do you think August is?

Wrapping Gifts with Pantone

I think that gift wrapping is more fun for me than the recipient. I've used many kinds of wrapping, but keep coming back to my favorite; brown paper. This year I thought I'd dress it up with Pantone's color of the year; turquoise (Pantone 15-5519). Perhaps you remember last year they chose Mimosa? Pantone has a huge influence on color trends and I've noticed that some companies (such as J. Crew) are already presenting their new products in turquoise.

Are you ready for the Year in Turquoise?
