Evil - Interpol

You see I've resisted the urge to post my favorite song from my childhood that I recall every Independence Day, and I can still conjure that feeling of being on a swing and listening to that song during our country's bicentennial celebration. I've also resisted the urge to share with you some über-young songstress doing a chilling, if overly embellished, performance of our national anthem. Maybe you'll accept a little Interpol.

I stepped into B&N yesterday on a quick errand and couldn't resist picking up the latest issue of B&W Magazine. This issue is the 2011 Portfolio Contest Winners. It always renews an interest in B&W photography for me. The silky grays, the light that sings, and the shadows that either provide compositional detail or shroud things in mystery. I'm still trying to decide on a favorite portfolio ...

I read some where once that if you find an occupation you like, you'll never have to work a day in your life. While that has a ring of truth to it, and I do really enjoy what I do, I've got some projects that will be keeping me super busy. So, I might be a little scarce around here over the next couple of weeks, but I promise ... I'll be back with something good for you.

Zoo: Decay

The zoo has all sorts of rusted and decayed things throughout the property. I'll admit, it's all a bit staged, but I can't help but find it charming anyway.

Zoo: The Birds of Africa

While our own birds can be pretty spectacular, it's hard to match the costumes and drama of the birds of Africa. From top to bottom: Blue Bellied Roller, Green Starling, African Sparrow, Hoopoe and African Crowned Crane.

One of the many neat things about our zoo is the aviaries. They allow you to get close to birds that you would never be able to see up-close in nature. And the variety is pretty astounding. To see more birds, please go here. Do you have a favorite?

My husband took me to the zoo for my birthday the other day. It's no secret that we have one of the best zoos in the country, so I may spend a few days ranting and raving about the wild creatures there. The tiger? Yes, he was shamelessly flirting with me.
