My mom is a gardener extraordinaire. She taught me a love of beauty. And patience. And humility. There are other things she's still working on. She had her work cut out for her when she had me, but she manages beautifully. Happy birthday, Mom!

Scenes from a Weekend
So, we weren't raptured this weekend, but that didn't stop us from having a Rapture Party with some friends in the country. And I couldn't have more welcomed the beautiful weather and time outside on the patio, looking over my new book from my friend, Jane. Didn't Henry James say something special about Summer afternoons, even if it isn't officially Summer yet?

Up-Close and Personal

Recently I was talking to a friend about photography when he said, "I like a long depth-of-field." "Ew," I said to myself inwardly. You needn't have been around here long to recognize that I really dig close-up, as macro as I can get with a kit lens. The details enthrall me. Scrutinizing all the little elements that make up a thing send me into ecstasies. But, I have to admit that backing up once in a while can help you see the bigger picture, appreciate the larger context. Still, I prefer up-close and personal.
